THE chief judge of  Anambra State, Justice Peter Umeadi, threatened, yesterday, to withdraw magistrates from communities that exhibited hostile attitudes to  judicial officers posted to their areas.

Speaking after the swearing-in of 20 new magistrates and one deputy chief registrar at the High Court complex in Awka, Justice Umeadi said there was need for the host communities to support the judicial officers posted to their areas as their duty was mainly to ensure quick dispensation of justice.

He also frowned on a situation where police officers were attached to civilians when judicial officers risked their lives without security.

“It is a misplaced priority to assign police to civilians when magistrates are left at the mercy of criminals in the society,” he said.

According to him, magistrates handle the bulk of cases and therefore, need the necessary protection and assistance to enable them perform optimally.

He stated that the new magistrates were coming at a time Anambra State were being positioned for greater achievements in all sectors of human endeavour.
