A Federal High Court in Enugu, yesterday, granted a motion for an order of mandamus to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to prosecute a House of Representatives member-elect in Enugu State, Chukwuemeka Ujam, for certain  electoral offences.

Ujam was alleged to have committed the offences during the National Assembly election on March 28.

He was declared the winner of Nkanu East/West federal constituency election under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. But, his main opponent in the election, Nnoli Nnaji, of People for Democratic Change, PDC, yesterday, brought a motion ex-exparte through  his lawyer, Chuma Oguejiofor, to enable him apply for an order of mandamus to compel INEC to prosecute Ujam.

It will be recalled that Nnaji had earlier in a petition to INEC, alleged that soldiers on election duty arrested Ujam, who was also a former commissioner in the state for being in possession of over 4,000 Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, at Four Corner, Ozalla Junction in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State on the election day.
