THE Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Marshall Umukoro, has blamed the attitude of some lawyers who are due to be Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SAN, but are yet to bag the title as the reason they have not been honoured with the award.
He said: “Looking at the faces here, there are more than 30 lawyers who are qualified to be SAN but they are not. The answer to this is because many of us are very rude, we are not loyal and we do not know how to serve.
“There are certain secrets in this profession, it is not a cult. Like every profession, there are secrets and these secrets can only be revealed to you when you are humble and loyal.”
In his remark, NBA president, Mr. Augustine Alegeh, SAN, said that the inauguration of the Udu branch has increased the NBA branches in the country to 111, adding that the approval for the branch came after scrutiny of several applications.
Charging members of the executive to maintain a high level of professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties, Mr. Alegeh urged them to always conduct themselves in strict adherence and compliance with the constitution of the association.
Speaking earlier, chairman of the occasion, Prof. Agbe Utuama, described the emergence of Udu NBA branch as a feat that would deepen democracy as there would be an increased participation in the representation of lawyers at the NBA annual elections.
In his inaugural speech, Udu branch chairman, Mr. Valentine Ugege, promised to deliver on professionalism and ideology of the association, as he appealed for support for the branch from the Warri branch and other sister branches within and outside the state.
