Law officers at the Federal Ministry of Justice have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government to look into their grievances, part of which include payment of outstanding robe allowances and promotion arrears dating back to 2013.

The workers, under the aegis of Law Officers Association of Nigeria(LOAN) are hinging the decision on the non-uniformity of salary structure for law officers in the public service, saying failure of the federal government to comply with the ultimatum will lead the association to join the ongoing strike by Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria(JUSUN).

The ultimatum by LOAN which is expected to elapse on the first week of February, 2015 was also to compel government to provide for the staff peculiar allowances for purchase of books, law reports, hazard allowance, court appearance, car loans among others. National president of LOAN, Solomon Ibhadon told journalists in Abuja yesterday that the crisis had lingered on for 20 years, adding that efforts by stakeholders to resolve their grievances had not yielded any positive effect.

He said, “Our proposed industrial action is meant to press home the implementation of the circular on harmonisation issued by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice in 1994 which circular has now been implemented by states.
