Sapele branch of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, in Delta State yesterday stormed major streets in the city, protesting the kidnap of one of their colleagues, Barrister Desmond Dudu, last Sunday.

The branch also embarked on boycott of courts with effect from yesterday, until next Thursday, October 30.

His captors have neither made contact nor demanded any ransom for his release at press time.

Dudu was kidnapped along Abraka/Eku Road, infested with several deep potholes, which had made it almost impassable for the last 10 years.

A reliable family source said he travelled to Abraka for a social engagement and was kidnapped on his return to Sapele.

NBA branch chairman, Mr. Gabriel Kerewi, and the Secretary, Mr. Ufuoma Ovwiudoh, said in a statement issued as part of the protest: “Sequel to the protest rally embarked upon by the Nigerian Bar Association, Sapele branch yesterday, October 22, the lawyers re-affirmed the decision to boycott the courts from Wednesday, October, 22 to Thursday, October 30, to continue the protest against the kidnapping of our colleague, D. S. Dudu, Esq.”

It would be recalled that about this same time a year ago, the oldest practicing lawyer in Sapele, Chief J. Y. Odebala, was kidnapped and released a week later, after a huge ransom was paid to his captors.
