‘Nigerians must be wary of opportunists in 2023’

Lawyers Network for Bola Ahmed Tinubu (LANBAT) has said Nigerians should be wary of opportunists in 2023 elections.

It noted that blackmailing and  name-calling was trending rather than issues.

LANBAT said only Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima had given clear manifesto and action plans on governance.

At a news conference in Abuja, the co-convener, Olalekan Adeshina, should focus on candidates’ manifestos.

He said: “Democracy must be built through open society that shares information. When there is information, there is enlightenment. Occasionally the truth stands alone, and it is sought through debates, and dissection of facts. By this means, we prevent the abuse of information, defeat ignorance, ensuring accountability and strengthening democracy.

‘’Beyond cheap blackmails and propaganda, we will remind Nigerians Tinubu/Shettima is that of men with history as legislators and governors, unlike the others.

‘’We are confident only Tinubu and Shettima had direct engagement with all sections crucial to our society.”

Kayode Mogbojuri, another convener, said rather than  issues, their opponents throw out offensive and defamatory statements.

“Approaching the court makes it more of an authority. Nobody will stop Nigerians from discussing issues but … when an issue has to do with legality, we should allow the court deal with it…”
