The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru has formally assumed duty following a handing and taking over ceremony at the army headquarters Abuja.

Major General Attahiru becomes the 25th chief of army staff promising to tackle insurgency, banditry and other security challenges bedevilling the country.

He was appointed on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari alongside other Service Chiefs.

Major General Attahiru succeeded General Buratai who resigned and retired from service on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Presidential Media Adviser, Femi Adesina.
