The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a man named Azeez Jimoh for allegedly stealing two tricycles and a Tecno phone all valued at N3.5m in the Makoko area of the state.

The 24-year-old man was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y Adefope sitting before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on two counts bordering on stealing.

The defendant was accused of stealing two TVS tricycles with registration numbers, FKJ291QN and KRD719QM, valued at N1.8m each, properties of one Mr Adimu Oluwaseun; and two Tecno phones valued at N120,000, property of one Ogundola, all valued at N3.720.000.

The police prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, told the court that the defendant committed the crime with his gang members who are currently at large on October 8, 2023, around 4.30 am at No 7 Baale Street, Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State.https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.609.0_en.html#goog_699541167

According to Haruna, the offences contravene and are punishable under Sections 411 and 287 (10) of the Criminal Laws of the Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The charge read in part, “That you, Azeez Jimoh, ‘m’, and others now at large on or before October 8, 2023 at 4.30 am, at No 7 Baale Street, Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal two TVS tricycles with registration numbers FKJ291QN, KRD719QM, engine numbers; AZXWL34489,   AZXWNE54988 and chassis number, MD2A25BX4NWE73245 both valued at N1.8 m, properties of Adimu Oluwaseun; and two pairs of Techno phones valued at N120.000, property of one Ogundola…

a total value at N3.720m only and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (10) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the count charges preferred against him.

The counsel prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.

Adefope, granting the counsel’s prayer, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500.000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till January 19, 2024 for mention.
