Lagos man in court for stealing N1,500 beer

A 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Kuye, has been sentenced to four hours of community service before the Ogba Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly trespassing into a compound and stealing three bottles of Tiger beer valued at N1,500 in the Egbeda Alimosho area of the state.

Kuye, who was arraigned on March 23, 2023, before Magistrate O.A Ogunjobi, is facing two-count bordering on stealing preferred against him by the police.

The police, Inspector Emeka Ehinze, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Egbeda, in the Alimosho area of the state.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 306(2) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Ibrahim Kuye, on March 18, 2023, around 3pm at Gemade Estate, Egbeda, Alimosho, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did break into No. 9 Fidelix Crescent, Gemade Estate, Egbeda, Alimosho, Lagos State, by climbing the gate of the compound, property of one Uche Uba, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 306 and punishable under Section 306(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

When Kuye was interrogated by the Magistrate, he narrated that he did it out of frustration.
