Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin

Following the allegation from the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon.  Adewale Omirin, that some people were planning to invade the assembly in order to get him impeached, the state  Police Commissioner, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, has promised to beef up security in the assembly.
The police commissioner revealed that the step became imperative to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Speaking with THISDAY  through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi,  in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Lakanu urged members of the assembly not to entertain any fear in view of the apprehension raised by the speaker.
The police commissioner said  his men are battle ready to deal with anybody found with sinister  intention to unleash  violence in the state.

Omirin in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Wole Olujobi, last  Friday, alleged that the six All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last Thursday, were planning to impeach him.

But Lakanu, who said his men would be neutral as the politics of the state unfolds, however, warned the political parties to call their members to order for the state to be peaceful.

The police boss said the command won’t hesitate to wield the big stick against those heating up the polity and setting the people against each other.

According to him, “The police are  on top of the situation. We are going to beef up security in every part of the state, particularly at the state House of Assembly to prevent any calamity befalling the state.

“Though, we are not going to be partisan in the assembly’s affair, but we will be on ground and ensure that no violence is perpetrated.

“We appeal to the speaker to avail the command of all necessary information that can help it in dealing with the situation decisively,” Lakanu pleaded.
