Hearing in Otti’s petition against Ikpeazu begins

THE Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, yesterday, began proper hearing in the petition filed by All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate in the April 2015 election, Dr. Alex Otti, challenging the election of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, with three witnesses testifying for Otti.

This came as the tribunal ordered INEC to ensure that the APGA candidate was availed with the right electoral materials for inspection.

The witnesses, Goodluck Ezebuiro, Ferdinand Ajaegbu, and Chinyere Irechukwu, worked for APGA as collation agents during the election in Umuahia North and Osisioma.

They alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, did not provide materials for the April 11 and 25 polls, respectively in their area of assignment.

After their witnesses, they were separately cross-examined by Messrs Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, and Emeka Etiaba, SAN, and Hagler Okorie, counsels for INEC, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, respectively.
