Customs finds five smugglers’ routes in Niger

• Seizes 57 exotic cars

The Niger/Kogi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has discovered five smugglers’ routes across Niger State.

The Command also seized 57 exotic cars in the last two months.

Area Controller of the Command Busayo Kadejo, spoke to journalists in Minna yesterday about the development.

“In the area of anti-smuggling activities during the period under review, the Command has been able to record seizures and detentions of 57 units of exotic cars and other vehicles of different make and a total of seven suspects were arrested, detained and released on administrative bail.

“The Comptroller also said that 21 bales of second-hand clothing, 90 bags of fertilisers, 2,900 litres of PMS and 36 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice were also seized, adding that the cumulative duty paid value for all the seized items amounted to N238.4 million.

The comptroller said the Command employed various intelligence methods to fish out smugglers which led to the discovery of the illegal routes.
