Obiajulu Uja, a self-claimed loyalist of Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate during the 2023 elections, has been placed on a one-month medical observation by the Zuba Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This was as Uja attempted to assault the court registrar on Tuesday, when he was taken to the court by the Kuje Correctional Centre personnel.

It was learnt that the “Obidient” supporter was not expected at the Magistrate Court on Tuesday, as the hearing on his case was slated to continue today (Wednesday).

Obiajulu Uja was on the verge of attacking the Court’s Registrar when he was taken away by the jail officers who had initially brought him.

But, when he was arraigned before the Abuja court on Wednesday, the trial judge, Magistrate Abdulazeez Ismail Muhammad, subpoenaed (summoned) the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, as well as the Head and Chief Medical Officer of the Kuje Correctional Centre, to appear in court on Friday (within the next 48 hours), for disobeying the court’s order on the Chief Medical Officer of Kuje Prison to “provide his opinion in writing as to the state of mind of Uja, who is said to be mentally-challenged.”

Magistrate Ismail Muhammad issued a ruling on the mental soundness of the ‘Obidient’ supporter on April 20, 2023, after reviewing a medical report by one Dr. Olusegun Shoyombo, a Consultant Psychiatrist at the National Hospital Abuja.

According to PRNigeria, he said: “Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the defendant be remanded at Kuje Correctional facility for one month for medical observation. The medical personnel shall accord the defendant the requisite and required medical treatment at the expense of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The medical officer shall provide to the court his opinion in writing as to the state of mind of the defendant, during the period of his remand and before the expiration of that period.”
