Jibrilla is flying the All Progressives Congress, APC, flag, while Ahmadu Fintiri is on the ticket of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

Adamu Fintir

Both candidates are upcoming politicians as far as Adamawa State politics is concerned  but arguably they are the front runners in the bye-election and a similar characteristic being legislators. Though the Jubrilla is in the National Assembly while Fintiri was a state lawmaker, and indeed, the speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly before the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako as governor, recently.

Their chances
As the two go into full campaign preparatory to the bye-election to complete Nyako’s tenure, Adamawa State is in for a tight and two-horse race.

Senator Mohammed Bindow Jibrilla

Currently, the vice chairman Senate Committee on Defence, Jibrilla, according to records hails from one of the richest families in Adamawa state.
The APC candidate is a dogged fighter to have fought tooth and nail to beat other aspirants to clinch the party ticket. Worthy of note is the ability of the Senator to defeat an aspirant sponsored by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the APC primaries. Bindow Jibrilla has all it takes to put up a big surprise in the October re-run. He is said to enjoy the support of APC national leaders and members in Adamawa.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri
Leading the Adamawa State House of Assembly to impeach Nyako has endeared the acting governor to the people of the state. Fintiri has good leadership qualities as he is thought to be the only speaker to have kept members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly united.

Fintiri also enjoys the support of six other aspirants who stepped down for him in the course of the struggle for the PDP ticket.
The aspirants, if they match their words with action will surely give the acting governor the necessary support to emerge victorious in the election. Fintiri also enjoy the support of PDP  hierarchy.

The acting governor is expected to benefit from the incumbency factor. With the huge government resources at his disposal apart from his personal wealth, his supporters expect him to remain at the Government House till May 29, 2015.

As the election draws closer the two candidates are expected to consolidate on their chances to outwit each other by telling the electorate their vision, mission and how to accomplish them. It is to be seen where the pendulum of victory would swing.
