Taraba acting gov dares court, says medical panel’ll determine Suntai’s fate

Taraba-State-Governor-Danbaba-Suntai

ACTING Governor of Taraba State, Garba Umar yesterday stormed the Wadata Plaza, National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying the outcome of the Medical Panel set up by the State House of Assembly to probe the Health Status of Governor Danbaba Suntai  would determine whether or not he would handover to his boss.

Briefing the National Working Committee, NWC  of the PDP on the political quagmire in Taraba State, the Acting governor blamed the crisis in the state on what he described as the insistence by some powerful people who were trying to force him to handover to his boss against professional advice.

Acting governor Umar who lamented that some mischief makers on the State were trying to take advantage of the recent return of Suntai to the country after medical treatment in the United Kingdom to cause trouble in the State, however added that the medical panel was not designed  to remove Governor Suntai.  “This is not true. It is merely intended to determine if I can hand over to him or not”, he added

It will be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital had stopped the Medical Panel from probing the health status of governor Suntai.
Acting Governor Umar said,

“Your timely intervention, guidance and counsel have helped us greatly since the unfortunate air incident involving my boss, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai on the 25th of October, 2012.

“Worthy of note is a high-powered delegation of our party led by Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma to douse the tension generated by the first return of Governor Danbaba Suntai from a medical trip in August 2013.

“The state of affairs in our state has generally been stable since the intervention as His Excellency Governor Suntai continue to receive medical care  within and outside the country. As can be clearly seen over this period, the medical condition of Governor Suntai is improving. And we are waiting for the doctors to certify him to be fit to resume his duties. As you must have by far noticed, we have once again stepped into a tensed situation occasioned by the second return of His Excellency, Governor Danbaba Suntai from treatment abroad.

“The insistence by a powerful bloc in the state that I hand over to my boss even against professional advice is at the centre of the current impasse. This has forced the State Executive Council to request the State House of Assembly to set up a medical panel to verify the state of health of our beloved governor. I’ve heard people say the motive behind the setting up of the panel is to remove the governor. This is not true. It is merely intended to determine if I can hand over to him or not.”

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, PDP Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, who urged Umar to continue to improve on measures to stabilise the state, stressed that peace was more required in the State particularly at this period the country was  moving towards general elections.
