Shittu Commends NBA For Embracing ICT

Mr Adebayo Shittu, the Minister of Communications has commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for striving to reform the practice of the legal profession by leveraging on Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Shittu said this when the President of the association Abubakar Mahmoud visited him in Abuja, according to a statement by Victor Oluwadamilare Special Assistant on Media to the Minister on Thursday.

Shittu expressed delight on the resolve of the association to engage ICT in refining legal practice, saying advocacy and capacity building were veritable means to make Nigerian lawyers more effective and efficient.

He promised the association, which came to seek his support for the coming 2017 NBA National Conference that he would use his office to actualise the objective of the conference.

He said that he would encourage agencies under the supervision of the ministry such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to give logistic support for the conference.

The minister, who is a lawyer, also promised to attend the conference billed for Lagos between Aug. 18 and Aug. 24, with lawyers in the ministry and the agencies under the ministry. He said that he was proud to be one of the 11 versatile lawyers currently members of the 37 members Federal Executive Council.

Earlier, Mahmoud said that the visit was to seek support and cooperation of the minister and agencies under the ministry.

He said that the NBA was out to gather the necessary support for the success of the conference having contacted the Law Societies of England and South Africa.

“This year’s conference will focus on development of institutions of government considering the various challenges the nation is facing.
