The final victory  in respect of last April governorship election has come for Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi as the Supreme Court yesterday upheld his election and dismissed the appeal filed by former governor of the state and Accord Party governorship candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja.

The apex court in a unanimous verdict dismissed Ladoja’s appeal for lack of merit.

Ladoja had earlier lost at both the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

Reacting to the judgment, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr Yomi Layinka that he gave thanks to the Almighty God saying he was not surprised that the pendulum of judgment  tilted towards him.

“We thank God and the good people of Oyo State. It is not surprising knowing well that the election was considerably free and fair.”

“L adoja and his party had the right to challenge the results of the election. After losing at the tribunal, he went to Appeal Court and later to the Supreme Court. Now that the fight is over, everybody will now turn his productive energy to the development of the state”.

 Ladoja congratulates Ajimobi

Accepting the judgment, his main opponent in the election, Senator Rashidi Ladoja said  with the judgment of the supreme Court, the electoral process has come to an end and as such I urge all to support Ajimobi government.

Ladoja, in a statement signed by his media aide,   Alhaji Lanre Latinwo, thanked all  party faithful   and everyone who supported him during the course of the election and judicial process.

“This is the time to join hands with the governor to move the state forward as the judgment   of the Supreme Court has put finality to the election process.

He further stated   that he will continue to offer himself to the service and improvement of the state and encouraged all well meaning citizens of Oyo state to work and pray for the governor towards the betterment of the state adding that it’s only in a peaceful atmosphere that true development can take place.

 State Chairman, APC reacts

The state chairman of the APC reacting to the judgment said; ‘’I am one of the few who attended all the court sittings from the beginning to the end. I could not see how Ladoja would make it.

‘’The fulcrum of their case was on one Adesoji who is a farmer. With that, I knew that if he goes to the Almighty God, he will lose. The judgment is a legacy that would stand for many years. I’m thankful to the Almighty God, the party members and the people of Oyo State for standing with the governor and the party.”.
