THE Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Aba Chapter, has called on the National Assembly to make laws banning electricity companies from extorting residents through estimated bills and fixed charges.
The newly elected NBA Chairman, Aba, Mr. Ken Nwakamma made this call during an interview in his office in Aba.
He said that it was not enough for the National Assembly to make a resolution which had no legal backing, adding that when made into law, it would reduce the rate of extortion of residents.
“I commend the National Assembly for thinking about power generation and supply payment issue. It is one area that has affected industries, companies and individuals adversely and we should not allow that to continue.
“It is not enough for the National Assembly to make mere pronouncement on this issue. They should present a bill to cover this area, pass the bill into law, so that the idea of giving Nigerians estimated bills and fixed charges would be outlawed.”
