All cases at the Lagos division of the Court of Appeal were yesterday adjourned in honour of the two justices of the appeal court, who lost their lives at the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

It was a solemn moment when the news of their deaths were broken at the floor of the Court of Appeal, Lagos division, as the justices and lawyers observed  a minute silence for the repose of their souls.

Justices Abubakar Abdulkadir Jega and Musa Hassan Alkali, of the Abuja and Ilorin Division of the Court of appeal respectively were among the pilgrims that lost their lives in the stampede during the symbolic hajj ritual of stoning the devil at the Jamarat Bridge outside Makkah, in Saudi Arabia.

At the resumed hearing of cases yesterday, Justice Shagbaor Ikyegh urged lawyers to observe a minute silence in honour of the two justices.

He however, told the lawyers that the court will not be able to hear their cases and all the matters slated for hearing should be adjourned by the court registrars.

One of Justice Jega’s last judgements  affirmed the verdict of the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election.

Meantime, the Lagos state government yesterday, said none of the 3, 000 pilgrims from the state were involve in the stampeded that claimed over 700 lives in Mina, Saudi Arabia.
