The outgoing Chief Judge of  Kwara State, Justice Ayinla Bamigbola, has urged politicians to respect the law and constitution of Nigeria in their electioneering activities.

He stated that this will ensure peace, orderliness  and the delivering of the dividends of democracy in Nigeria.

He spoke in an interview with journalists during the public presentation of his biography, ‘From the valley to the pinnacle,’ in Ilorin on Thursday.

“Politicians should respect the rule of law and try to allow the law of the land and the constitutions to prevail over every affair of every citizen of Nigeria. When all of us respect the law, there will be peace, orderliness, and progress.

“The judiciary is at the corners stone of dividends of democracy. You grant the people, first of all, their legal right. It is the beginning of having all other economic and social right.”

The out-gong CJ also said that it is imperative to empower the judiciary to enable them perform their roles efficiently.

Noting that judiciary is a very strategic organ of government, he stated that empowering judicial officers will enhance good governance.

Bamigbola said, “A lot needs to be done to improve the activities of the judiciary. Judiciary is a very important organ of  government. For the good of any government or administration, the judiciary must be strengthened and empowered to fulfill its role under the Constitution and law of the nation.

“Judiciary will  be empowered by ensuring  the welfare of judges which will make them to be more productive and perform their duties efficiently and effective.”

The Chief Registrar, Kwara State Judiciary, Mr. Moses Ade canvassed for financial autonomy for the judiciary as a way of empowering it.

He stated that financial autonomy for the judiciary will strengthened the rule of law and make it more efficient and fearless in the discharge of its constitutional roles.
