The Ogun State faction of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to a chieftain of the party, Buruji Kashamu, yesterday, discontinued the contempt proceedings against former governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Also, the faction led by Adebayo Dayo discontinued the contempt proceedings it earlier filed against former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and another chieftain of the party, Dave Salako.

Only the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, were left as alleged contemnors in the contempt proceedings before the court.

The Dayo-led executive had initiated four separate contempt proceedings against the alleged contemnors for allegedly disobeying orders of the court.

The plaintiffs had specifically alleged that the respondents had been attempting to remove them from office, despite two Federal High Court judgments affirming the legality of their positions.

Trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, had at the last adjourned date, threatened to order arrest of Bankole, Daniel and Salako should they fail to appear before the court, but when the matter came up yesterday, all the alleged contemnors were not in court but were represented by their lawyers.

However, lawyer to the applicants, had surprisingly applied to the court to discontinue the contempt proceedings against Daniel, Bankole and Salako.
