The Commissioner, Federal Public Complaints Commission, Ogun State, Mr. Wale Ogunbanjo, has said the commission will drag the Ogun State Government before a court of law ‎to seek redress over the demolition of its structure under construction in the state.

He said this on Monday in Abeokuta, while briefing journalists on the development.

The state government, through the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, pulled down the building which would have served as the headquarters of the agency of government on Wednesday.

Ogunbanjo described action of the state government under the leadership of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as ‘premeditated and illegal’, saying the commission got notice of the demolition at 4pm on Tuesday and the structure was pulled down by 7am on Wednesday.

He said, “It was on March 3, 2015 that a ‘stop work order’ and a ‘three-day contravention notice’ was served on the commission. Unfortunately, the following day, Wednesday, March 14, 2015. Before the three-day contravention notice lapsed, agents of the state government, ostensibly ordered by His Excellency, went into their illegal action as early as 7am to demolish the ongoing project of the Commission.

“No doubt, the Federal Public Complaints Commission shall seek the intervention of the court of law for redress, as the option remains the best for us in the circumstance.”

Ogunbanjo said the commission was apolitical, noting that it should not be caught in the political crossfire that might have ensued between the federal and state governments.

While he further said the demolition exercise was a sheer waste of tax payers’ money, he added that the current administration in the state was notorious for illegal demolition.

“This sinister act has brought about a colossal waste of tax payers’ money and unquantifiable setback to the good work the Commission is rendering to the citizens of Ogun State and Nigeria in general.”

He said that the demolition was carried out without any prior notice to even the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development nor the Commission.
