Former Attorney General of Edo State and a delegate to the just concluded National Conference, Chief Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, SAN, has condemned the abduction of former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA , Mr. Okey Wali, SAN, and appealed to his abductors to release him without harm.

In a statement yesterday, Chief Uwensuyi-Edosomwan said: “The news of Okey Wali’s abduction came to me as a rude shock. What would make anyone go after a lawyer whose calling and professional path have been of remorseless work and advocacy for the Rule of Law and the extermination of oppression of the lowly? It all argues for a more aggressive security policy reforms that would bring national policing to the rescue of all the exposed citizens of this country, rich or poor.

“I appeal fervently to Okey’s abductors to show mercy to him and his family and the larger NBA family and release him without harm. All in Rivers should by now be tired of the tensions that have lasted too long, which has all but brought the Rule of Law to its knees. Please increase the peace in Rivers by releasing him immediately.”

Edosomwan called on the president to accelerate action on the resolution of the recent National Constitutional Conference that recommended states and community policing. “This is the better model for a country as geographically immense and culturally variegated as Nigeria,” he argued.
