A group, Mass Movement for Buhari 2015, has called on the military authorities to “commence investigations” into allegations by Captain Sagir Koli of how the ruling Peoples Democratic Party “used soldiers to rig the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.”

The organisation said the demand became necessary in order to forestall a repeat of the incident in the forthcoming general elections scheduled for March 28.

The National Coordinator of MMB, Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja insisted that “the Army must fish out the culprits involved in the anomaly and punish erring officers according to military rules.”

The MMB also advised President Goodluck Jonathan to resign for alleged dereliction of duty as the Commander-in-Chief, following his response during the recent media chat that he was not aware of the letter from the security chiefs to the Independent National Electoral Commission which led to the postponement of the 2015 elections from February 14.

He urged INEC to ignore calls by some fraudulent politicians to jettison the use of electronic card readers in the conduct of the 2015 elections.

Ibe-Kalu said, “We reject the call on INEC to discard the card reader they had acquired for 2015 elections. On the claim by the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, that it has not been tested, may we remind him that Nigeria is not the first country to use card reader since its invention. Therefore, it is ignorance on his part to fault its performance.”

He also advised the military to restrict their actions to the dictates of their oath of office, “which is to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria and to protect our constitution and democracy.”

According to him, the military should not conceive the idea of staging a coup under any guise” because Nigerians and the international community would resist any attempt to undermine the country’s democracy.

“If the reason of shifting elections is for the PDP and the Presidency to devise devious means of rigging the March 28 presidential election, they had better forget that idea as Nigerians will never accept nor even consider it. Jonathan has all the chance to be on the positive side of history if he conducts an acceptable free and fair election,” Ibe-Kalu stated.
