Ekiti State House of Assembly has rejected the request of the ex-Speaker of the fourth Assembly in the state, Mr. Adewale Omirin, for the reversal of the impeachment carried out by a faction of the immediate past Assembly against him.
The Assembly said it had no power under the law to reverse Omirin’s impeachment.
The Assembly, in a letter dated November 9, being a reply to Omirin’s letter, where he requested that his impeachment be reversed, said the requests that the tenure served by factional Speaker, Dele Olugbemi also be obliterated, are purely constitutional matters, which go beyond the purview of what the House could handle.
Omirin had , however, assured that he would get justice in the court of law, even if the Assembly turns down the request, adding that it could have been honourable for the lawmakers to accede to the request for posterity’s sake.
The reply, read by the Speaker, Mr. Kola Oluwawole, in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said Omirin, had in suit FHC/CS/1823/14 at the Federal High Court, Lagos, challenged the impeachment before it was later dismissed upon withdrawal.
He said since the impeachment had been challenged in court, it was a serious impediment to the House’s acceding to the request.
