EBONYI State Government and a coalition of youth organisations in the state, yesterday said it was in support of the impeachment of the former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku.
Nwazunku was impeached on Monday.
Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, the supervising Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Ifeanyi Ikeh, said the state government was appreciative of the change in the leadership in the House of Assembly.
He contended that the House followed due process in the impeachment of the former speaker and called on the people of the state to remain law abiding and confident in the administration of Governor Martin Elechi.
According to him, “This brings me to the issue of the recent happenings in the House of Assembly, where 16 honourable members sat and impeached the former speaker. To us, the executive, it is purely the business of the 24 members of the House.”
Similarly, spokesman for the youth groups and Commissioner for Education, Chibueze Agbo, said the youths were mobilised from different parts of the state to express their solidarity for the new Speaker, Chief Blaise Orji, and Governor Martin Elechi’s administration.
He said “These youths are over 1000; they are here at the grand Arena to demonstrate their support for Governor Elechi and the new speaker and we won’t allow anybody to take over our party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.”
