The President of the League of Maritime Editors and Editor -in-Chief of the South South International Magazine, Ovie Edomi, and a Warri-based cleric and former board member of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Rev Robinson Oritsuwa, have dragged the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Mr. Kennedy Opara, to an Abuja high court over their detention and abuse of their fundamental human rights. Edomi, was arrested by officials of the DSS in Lagos when he held the 8th annual lecture of the South South International Magazine over a publication on the NCPC’s Executive Secretary alleged dirty deals.
He was arrested in Lagos and taken to Abuja headquarters of DSS and detained from June 27 to 30 this year. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Festus Keyamo, in a motion bought before the court, is claiming N200 million damage for the illegal arrest in a suit at the federal high court in Abuja which comes up on Friday
