Court begins hearing in N300m suit against Idahosa

An Edo State High Court in Benin, yesterday, commenced hearing in the suit by Prince Anthony Iyahen, who is claiming the sum of N300 million from the President of Benson Idahosa Property Development Company Ltd, Bishop Feb Idahosa. The matter is before Justice A. Edodo-Eruaga.

The claimant in the suit, is contending that he incurred the said amount as Chief Executive Officer of Portoviro Nigeria Ltd, after he was commissioned to carry out technical, non-technical and other mechanical works as regards the construction of Benson Idahosa Garden Estate, adding that Bishop Idahosa allegedly reneged in the payment of the agreed amount.

The claimant wants the court to compel the defendant to pay the sum of N275,579,750.00 “as professional and consultancy fees for all technical and non-technical work already done in the planning and provision of infrastructural designs, engineering and quantity surveying and in which work the claimant had done and submitted to the defendants.”

At the proceedings, yesterday, counsel to the defendant pleaded with the court to adjourn the matter to enable him study the suit, adding, “I was only briefed on the matter last Friday.”

Justice Eruaga adjourned the matter till March 16, 2016 for hearing.
