Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has awarded the sum of N10.5 million against the National headquarters and Lagos State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for failure to pay professional fees of its counsel Debo Adeleke Esq when he represented them at the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal between November 2011 and August 2012.
Adeleke who was irked over the party’s action of not responding to several plea for his service fees after representing them at the last Lagos State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal for record of 180 times without a default approached the court to seek redress of the matter.
Adeleke was represented by Onyegbulem ThankGod while Chukwuma Nmesirionye represented the PDP national headquarters during the judgement.
Since the matter commenced in February, only the national leadership of the party was represented by a counsel, Mr Chukwuma Nmesirionye.
Benson Akeredolu who was the counsel to the claimant when the matter first came up drew the court’s attention to the development,, the claimant’s counsel,in an application dated October 6, where he said the Lagos State PDP had been served with all the processes but chose not to respond.
