THE Lagos State Assembly yesterday trashed the report of the 15- man adhoc committee constituted to screen the cabinet nominees of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and went ahead to publicly screen 35 of the 36 nominees.
The body language of the 35 nominees suggested they had tough time with the committee. They were subsequently asked to speak on their background and experience with the committee set-up by the House to screen them last week.
The Screening Committee, which was headed by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, was directed by the House to invite the nominees and screen them between Monday 5 and Friday 9 October and report back to the House by yesterday, when sitting would resume but the report was not adopted before the House commenced the public screening.
However, 35 out of the 36 cabinet nominees appeared before the House yesterday, the same day the screening committee submitted its report, which is yet to be considered by the House.
Only Mrs Yetunde Onabule, who resides in the United Kingdom was absent.
The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa had earlier said that the nominees were invited for the open screening to eliminate all doubts and put an end to speculations about the job of the adhoc committee.
All the nominees, who appeared before the House, however spoke glowingly about the committee expressing delight over the way they were treated.
A nominee, Adebimpe Akinsola, who was in the House between 2011 and 2015, praised the committee, but revealed that she broke down in tears during the screening because of some of the questions the committee members asked her.
In his testimony, Babatunde Adejare, who was also a member of the Lagos Assembly and ex-Rep member, said that he was proud to be a former member of the House.
“I felt proud that members of the Assembly are erudite legislators. They showed me that my priority was not misplaced as a member of the House then,” he said.
Also speaking, a nominee, Mr. Agboola Dabiri said that he was stretched to the limit by the committee, but that they were thorough adding that he was proud of the Assembly.
