The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, will on Tuesday inaugurate the chairmen and members of the elections petitions tribunals ‎for the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the February general elections.

The ‎CJN is to set up the governorship and the legislative houses election Petitions as well as the National Assembly elections petitions tribunals in the 36 states of the federation.

The National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal will also be set up in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, but there will be no tribunal for the governorship and legisl‎ative houses election there.

A Court of Appeal panel is to hear the petition ‎from the presidential election.

Media aide to the CJN, Mr. Ahuraka Isah, said in a statement late on Thursday that the members of the various tribunals were 242 in number.

Isah said Justice Mohammed would perform the inauguration by 10am at the Supreme Court ‎on February 3.

‎In a separate statement Isah quoted the CJN as blaming the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the delay in the determination of corruption related cases in courts.

The CJN said the failure of the EFCC to conduct thorough investigation and draft charges with specific and fewer counts account for why courts find it difficult to conclude such cases on time.
