The Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Abdullahi Yusuf, on Thursday in Katsina constituted two tribunals to adjudicate over petitions arising from the Sept. 6 local government council elections in the state.

Yusuf said that the members were selected based on their reputation and urged them to ensure justice and do their job without fear, favour and affection.

He said members of the tribunals should bear in mind that the manner they carried out their assignment could mar or improve their standing in the society.

“If aggrieved people come here with petitions and cannot get justice, the result will affect everyone, including the members of the tribunals and the judiciary,’’ the Chief Judge said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first tribunal has Mr Kabir Shua’ibu as chairman while Messrs Abbas Masanawa and Yahay Daura would serve as members.

Mr Kabir Sai’idu will serve as the chairman of the second tribunal, while Lawal Suleiman and Haruna Dalhatu were appointed as members.

Responding on behalf of members of the tribunals, Shu’aibu commended the Chief Judge for appointing them to serve in that capacity.

He promised that they would discharge their duties in accordance with laid down rules and regulations.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and National Conscience Party (NCP) had already filed suits at the state High Court, challenging the process and conduct of the election.
