Operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department CID at the Delta State Police Command at the weekend have arrested a Lagos-based lawyer, one Mbanefo Nwoko for allegedly forging a medical report for his client, Prince Nonso Nwoko.

The continued failure of Nonso in court forced Chief Magistrate F. I. Dike, to issue a bench warrant which nullified his lawyer’s medical report, which emanated from the General Hospital, Owa-Oyibo, presented to the court.

The chief magistrate, who detected the false medical report, also granted an order to arrest the lawyer. Nonso, who is the crown prince of Idumuje-Ugboko, was thereafter arraigned for failing to respond to several invitations from the court over the unhealthy chieftaincy tussle that had claimed lives and destroyed in the kingdom.

Trouble erupted in court after the Assistant Commissioner of Police (SCID) in Asaba, in a letter tagged; “Disclaimer: Re- Medical Report On Nwoko Oreze Nonso Justin,” said the medical report whereby the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. P. A. Onyema, in a letter dated June 23, 2017, presented to the court did not emanate from the hospital. Consequently, the court further ordered a bench warrant on Nonso, saying he had failed to appear before the court since the inception of the case and went after his lawyer who had allegedly been hiding for several weeks to evade arrest.

Following a tip off, the lawyer was trailed to Auchi in Edo State, where he was arrested. The lawyer, however, said his client (Nonso), gave him the document to present in court. The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, could not be reached for comment when contacted on phone, but a top police officer at the CID in the state said the lawyer would be arraigned in court today.
