Members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly may move against the Speaker, Mr. Benson Kombowei over statement credited to him against President Goodluck Jonathan.

The lawmakers were said to have expressed their displeasure to the Speaker for making what they described as “degrading and inciting” comments against the President.

However, the Speaker has since cleared the air on the issue and declared his support for President Jonathan, maintaining that the latter has demonstrated true leadership, statesmanship, vision, capacity, and sacrifice in his transformation agenda.

The angry lawmakers were said to have held series of secret meetings in Yenagoa, where they condemned the Speaker’s tirade against Jonathan in an interview he granted a regional tabloid.

Kombowei had, in a statement by his media aide, Priye Kiyaramo, in the wake of the controversy that greeted the interview he granted the regional tabloid, described Jonathan as a true democrat who cannot be disrespected.

According to him, the President has been able to match words with action in his quest to transform the political landscape of Nigeria through his exemplary leadership style.

But the lawmakers, it was learned, were not satisfied with the Speaker’s comment describing same as face saving.

They insisted that the interview in the regional tabloid suggested that President Jonathan was plotting to impose candidates on members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state’s party primaries and as such distanced themselves from the offensive comments saying, “the Speaker is on his own.”
