Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin

The pro-Fayose lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Wednesday reiterated that the embattled Speaker, Hon. Adewale Omirin, was not impeached during Monday’s controversial sitting of 10 members.

The lawmakers , who insisted that 10 lawmakers sat during the highly vilified sitting, clarified that Omirin remained the Speaker and that they never contemplated any removal nor did they habour sinister any intention against him.

They disclosed that three legislators within the rank of  the All Progressives Congress were already working with them “administratively”, saying dialogue had reached an advanced stage for the defection of six more into the PDP’s fold.

The lawmakers said this during a courtesy call  paid on the assembly by the leadership of the Market Women Association, Ekiti chapter , in solidarity with the legislators in view of the crisis rocking the assembly .

In the same vein, Governor Ayodele Fayose , has advised the human rights lawyer, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, to steer clear of the politics of the state, saying he has no knowledge of the workings of Ekiti politics that could warrant his comments.

The governor said: “Nigerians should ask  Abayomi where he was when former Governor Kayode Fayemi used 12 ACN  lawmakers to confirm the appointment of local government caretaker committees in 2010, while the Speaker then, Hon Tunji Odeyemi and other PDP lawmakers were in Abuja to meet with the president and the Deputy Speaker, Hon Saliu Adeoti was dead.”

Fayose, who was reacting to the letter  dated November 18 and entitled; “Your threat to peace, order and governance leadership in the Ekiti State House of Assembly,” through his Special Assistant onPublic Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said Abayomi should stop  exposing his naked hypocrisy over issues he had little knowledge about.

However, a group under the auspices of  Ekiti Youth Vanguard , has urged security agents to arrest and prosecute three impostors who sat with seven PDP members to conduct the House of Assembly sitting on Monday.

It also called on the Inspector General of Police (IG), Suleiman Abba,  to identify the policemen deployed to provide a shield for the seven PDP members that forced the Clerk of the assembly at gun point to surrender the mace to conduct the illegal sitting.

The  market women, led by its chairperson,  Mrs. Olabisi Okunmolale, however praised the gallantry of the lawmakers for deploying supports for Governor Ayodele Fayose despite being in the minority.

Okunmolale appealed to the absconding APC lawmakers to refrain from partisanship and return home from the self-imposed exile to join hands with Fayose to bring Ekiti out of the woods or “face the wrath of Ekiti electorate”.

Samuel Ajibola , Hon. Ayo Fatumbi Ajibade, Hon. Abeni Olayinka and Hon Adeyinka Adeloye.

Speaking on  Omirin’s status, Ajibola said: “He (Omirin) still remains  our Speaker, We never impeached him. What we did on Monday was in the interest of Ekiti people. They should not use the Assembly to destabilise Ekiti and that is what we ae against.

“We want to say that if Omirin comes back to the Assembly today, we will embrace him and work with him harmoniously. So, I don’t think there is any crisis in the Assembly.

“As we speak now, three of the 19 APC lawmakers are cooperating with us administratively and three others will join us soon.”

Buttressing Ajibola’s position, Hon Fatumbi, said: “We were not elected to come and give any governor any problem. Ekiti cannot progress while in crisis or when the assembly is under lock and key. Our members in APC must come home and work to justify their pay.”

Olayinka, who pleaded with all stakeholders to rally supports for Fayose, said: “I belonged to the PDP but when Ekiti people said they wanted Fayose, I have to support him.

“Both Kayode Fayemi and Fayose are good sons of Ekiti. Fayemi was there, we all supported  him and it is the turn of Fayose now, all I expect Ekiti people to do is to do same in the interest of peace and unity.”

Fuming at Abayomi’s comment, the governor said: “Abayomi should first show to the public, the record of his complaints when the APC governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, shut the state House of Assembly and moved the assembly sitting to the Government House.

“The lawyer should also show to Nigerians if he reacted by writing the kind of abusive letter that he wrote to Governor Fayose to Fayemi when he sacked duly elected local government chairmen and Councilors in 2010 and use only  12 ACN lawmakers (without the Speaker and Deputy Speaker) to approve appointment of caretaker committee.

“In 2010, not only did Fayemi sack duly elected chairmen and councillors, his thugs invaded the local council headquarters, killing Chief Adeleye Awolumate and injured several people in the process.

“There is no record of any complaints from Abayomi when all these happened under Fayemi, a self-appointed progressive.

“So, why is Abayomi complaining now that Fayose is trying to erase the footprint of illegalities that Fayemi left in Ekiti?,” he concluded.
