The All Progressives Congress, APC, has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, to join it in the suit by Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in which it, UPN, is seeking to have the electoral commission list its presidential candidate and other candidates for the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

At yesterday’s hearing in the matter during which the motion on notice by the UPN against INEC, was slated for hearing, APC’s team of lawyers, including Kola Awodein, SAN; Emeka Ngige, SAN and Funke Aboyade, SAN, appeared in court with the motion for joinder.

They argued that as a major political party in Nigeria, any decision in the matter may affect the interest of the party, hence the need for the motion for joinder. INEC through its lawyer, said the commission had nothing against APC’s motion to join the suit, adding that it was within the liberty of the party to do so.
