Akwa Ibom chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the State Election Petitions Tribunal chairman, Justice Goddy Anunihu, of conspiracy with Senator Godswill Akpabio, to rob it of victory.
The party described the tribunal’s judgment that confirmed Akpabio’s election as the representative of Akwa Ibom North-East in the Senate as “wholesale miscarriage of justice”, vowing to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
It further submitted that Justice Anunihu’s ruling that gave victory to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had once again plunged the judiciary into a state of disrepute and ridicule.
APC spoke through its state chairman, Dr. Attai Amadu, who alongside party officials, briefed newsmen in Abuja over the weekend.
Faulting the ruling, Amadu said it was inconsistent on the part of the tribunal to have dismissed the petition of the APC candidate for Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, Chief Inibehe Okori, on the grounds that Akpabio’s candidacy in Akwa Ibom North-East senatorial district rather than Akwa Ibom North West where the APC candidate contested, was a “mistake”
Amadi said: “The APC in Akwa Ibom State observes with horror the wholesale miscarriage of justice in the outcome of the various petitions filed by the party and its candidates at the Akwa Ibom State National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals.”
