OVER 30 lawyers stormed a state High Court in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday, preventing an arraignment of their colleague, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The drama started when EFCC officials attempted to arraign the lawyer, Mr. Chike Ononye, before Justice Mbonu Nwenyi over alleged case of stealing and issuance of a dud cheque.
However, the lawyers, numbering over 30, stood against the arraignment and demanded that the case be settled out of court.
One Mr. Ononye, who introduced himself as a friend of the court, claiming to be speaking for members of Nigeria Bar Association present in court, objected to the arraignment and urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable parties settle out of court.
The court adjourned the matter to November 20, while the accused was taken back to EFCC custody.
